Okla began as Oklahoma, a much-loved homeware and gift shop in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, which opened its doors in 1997. For almost three decades, we filled the shop with colourful, curious and unexpected things, working with independent makers and designers alongside more established brands.
Oklahoma became a big part of our lives, and of Manchester too. But running a large physical shop comes with its own demands, and over time we realised that stepping back and scaling things down would give us more space for the work-life balance that has become increasingly important to us.
So Okla is a new chapter, but not a complete change of direction. We still love finding beautiful, unusual things and bringing them into people’s homes. We still love the thrill of discovering something you didn’t know you needed. We’re just doing it on a smaller scale, with more room to enjoy the things outside of work too.
We’re drawn to pieces with character, history and a sense of story. Handmade things, unusual objects, folk art and beautiful wares that you want to display, collect and live with.
The spirit of Oklahoma is still here. Okla is simply a little smaller, a little more considered, and very much our next chapter.
